Oracle Implementation Partners Continue to Rapidly Adopt and Invest in Oracle Fusion Applications

To help ease the integration and alignment of sustainability reporting with financial reporting, Oracle today introduced the Sustainability Reporting Starter Kit for Oracle Hyperion Financial Management.

The prebuilt application enables a repeatable, accurate and auditable approach for consolidating the environmental, social and economic metrics necessary for corporate sustainability reporting. The application includes content from the Global Reporting Initiative's (GRI) Sustainability Reporting Guidelines. The content is verified by GRI, a network-based organization that produces a comprehensive sustainability reporting framework that is widely used around the world.

The starter kit is available free of charge to customers and partners to jumpstart sustainability reporting initiatives using Oracle Hyperion Financial Management.

Prebuilt Sustainability Reporting Application Speeds Time to Value While Replacing Manual, Error-Prone Spreadsheets and Email

Sustainability reporting is mandatory in many countries, and is performed by organizations globally on a voluntary basis. Over 2,000 organizations have registered their sustainability reports with GRI. By leveraging the powerful consolidation and reporting capabilities of Oracle Hyperion Financial Management, organizations can align their corporate sustainability reporting process with the financial reporting process as opposed to building a separate, ad-hoc process.

The Sustainability Reporting Starter Kit for Oracle Hyperion Financial Management includes a prepackaged chart of accounts based on GRI's G3.1 Sustainability Reporting Guidelines, prebuilt task lists and Web data entry forms, prebuilt conversion rules and calculations, and reports customizable to meet company needs.

Organizations can integrate data directly from various financial, human resources (HR), facilities and other applications using Oracle Data Integrator or Oracle Hyperion Financial Data Quality Management, or users can enter data directly into the sustainability reporting application.

Based on energy and GHG conversion factors entered for each energy source, the prebuilt conversion calculation rules enable consumption data to be entered in any local measure for conversion to any other reporting measure (i.e. kilowatt hours converted to gigajoules). Taking advantage of the target setting and scenario capabilities of Oracle Hyperion Financial Management, organizations can enter corporate sustainability targets and measure actual results against them such as energy reduction, GHG emissions or HR goals.

The audit trail, process management and security features of Oracle Hyperion Financial Management also offer users the confidence and accuracy in reporting to internal management as well as external auditors.

Benefits of the starter kit span:

-- More efficient consolidation of corporate sustainability reporting
data (economic, environmental and social);
-- Enabling Oracle Hyperion Financial Management customers to take
advantage of existing IT investments and to apply the application
to a new set of reporting requirements;
-- Improving communication and relations with key stakeholders such
as customers, employees, partners and suppliers;
-- Improving brand image through increased sustainability reporting
transparency; and,
-- Regulatory compliance with sustainability reporting in countries
including Finland, France, the Netherlands, Spain and Sweden.

"Sustainability Reporting is becoming increasingly important to finance executives as stakeholders demand better disclosures regarding environmental and social impacts of the organizations they do business with," said John O'Rourke, vice president of Product Marketing, Oracle Enterprise Performance Management. "The Sustainability Reporting Starter Kit for Hyperion Financial Management will enable them to align their sustainability reporting processes with their financial reporting processes while accelerating their sustainability reporting projects and providing them with a repeatable, accurate and auditable approach."

"This starter kit complements the transactional capabilities for sustainability accounting provided by Oracle Environmental Accounting and Reporting," said Jon Chorley, Chief Sustainability Officer, Oracle. "It brings to environmental accounting, the same consolidation and reporting capabilities as Oracle Hyperion Financial Management provides to financial reporting."

"Many organizations who perform GRI-based sustainability reporting are challenged by manual, spreadsheet-based approaches that are often error-prone," said Michel Schoolenaar, Senior Consultant Oracle EPM, Centre Consulting. "The Sustainability Reporting starter kit for Oracle Hyperion Financial Management will allow us to accelerate sustainability reporting efforts for our customers, integrate this more closely with financial reporting, and ensure accuracy for stakeholders."

"Sustainability reporting needs similar rigorous processes as financial reporting. This includes clear reporting guidelines and definitions, good control mechanisms, audit trails, and control over changes in reported data," said George Turk, Group Vice President of Reporting at Telenor Group. "By moving the sustainability reporting out of spreadsheets into Hyperion Financial Management, the content owners are able to spend their time performing analysis, rather than dealing with quality control issues invariably associated with manual reporting."

About the Global Reporting Initiative

The Global Reporting Initiative (GRI) drives sustainability reporting by all organizations. GRI produces a comprehensive Sustainability Reporting Framework that is widely used around the world, to enable greater organizational transparency. The Framework, including the Reporting Guidelines, sets out the Principles and Indicators organizations can use to report their economic, environmental, and social performance. GRI is committed to continuously improving and increasing the use of the Guidelines, which are freely available to the public.

Hitachi Consulting UK Implements IT Improvement Programme for Mitsubishi UFJ Securities, Providing Greater Visibility, Reporting and Real Time Insight

Hitachi Consulting UK has announced that it has completed implementation of a Continual Improvement Programme for Mitsubishi UFJ Securities International plc. (MUSI). The upgraded IT systems, which included the Oracle E-Business Suite and Business Objects, are expected to enable MUSI to gain deeper, real time insight into its business reporting and management, and thereby help to dramatically reduce the IT lead time for delivering new requirements for the business.

As the usage of MUSI’s Oracle applications increased across the business over time, a backlog of required changes began to mount. The company’s internal IT team was busy with the day-to-day pressures of supporting the existing system and lacked the resources to complete enhancements and upgrades. MUSI also wanted to implement a number of new system enhancements. In particular, the company wanted to reduce the amount of time required for month end closure reporting, bring greater stability to the system, and implement additional software to improve real time, end user reporting capabilities.

“We wanted a safe pair of hands that could not only provide us with the technical knowhow, but also the commercial insight and understanding of our business requirements,” said David King, Chief Financial Officer for MUSI. “Hitachi Consulting is widely recognised in the UK market for the depth of its Oracle capabilities. They also have an appreciation of the broader marketplace and the challenges we face as a business.”

The Continual Improvement Programme implemented by Hitachi Consulting UK included upgrading the Oracle E-Business Suite from R12.0.4 to R12.0.6, improvements to a Financials Accounting Hub, along with a number of dedicated workstreams to address specific functional upgrades and system enhancements. Hitachi Consulting also provided integration of Business Objects with MUSI’s accounting data for enhanced ad hoc reporting and analytical capabilities on ERP transactions. The combination of process and technology has enabled MUSI to reduce the time spent making business rule changes each month from days to just hours.

“Hitachi Consulting has the breadth and resources of a large company with the innovation, and customer centric approach of a niche organisation,” added King. “They had specific functional knowledge with regards to Oracle. They were able to provide resources across the board – from industry experts who understood the investment banking world, through to technical consultants who understood the technology, reporting and architecture. We now have a faster, more stable system tailored to our specific needs, which gives us greater visibility, better reporting, and faster time to market. We’re delighted with the new improvements and the business advantages it is delivering for us.”

Headquartered in Alpharetta, Ga., CedarCrestone was formed in 2005 when Cedar Enterprise Solutions (founded in 1981) and Crestone International (founded in 1995) merged to create the leading North American service organization focused exclusively around Oracle PeopleSoft applications. Subsequently, CedarCrestone invested in capabilities around Oracle’s E-Business Suite and Fusion Technologies as well as in the growth of an off-shore delivery model. Today, CedarCrestone is one of the largest independent pure-play consultancies and managed services providers dedicated to the challenging needs of Oracle enterprise application customers.

“We have enjoyed our relationship with our private equity partner, Alchemy, for the past six years, and have grown with their help. We are now very excited about the opportunity to continue to grow and expand our services platform under the Golden Gate Capital umbrella,” said Cal Yonker, CEO of CedarCrestone. “We are extremely proud of our employees and of the quality of the organization we have built. In addition, we are very appreciative of our customers who have entrusted us with their confidence and support throughout the years. This transaction is an important milestone for CedarCrestone, and we look forward to enhancing our service capabilities and serving our customers even better.”

Cal Yonker and Brian Fees will remain CEO and CFO, respectively, of CedarCrestone.

Simultaneous to the close of this transaction, Yonker will lead a strategic partnership between CedarCrestone and Sierra Systems, another Golden Gate Capital portfolio company. Yonker will take responsibility to accelerate market, industry and solution synergies between the two companies.

“CedarCrestone is a market leader in the Oracle consulting ecosystem. We have known Cal and the CedarCrestone team since 2007, and we are thrilled to have the opportunity to partner with them,” said Jake Mizrahi, Managing Director of Golden Gate Capital. “I’m also excited about the synergies between Sierra Systems and CedarCrestone. The combined market coverage, industry depth and breadth of capabilities will allow us to compete on a much larger stage.”

TM Capital Corp. served as the exclusive financial advisor to CedarCrestone on the transaction. Lewis, Rice & Fingersh, L.C. served as legal counsel to CedarCrestone. Kirkland & Ellis LLC served as legal counsel to Golden Gate Capital.

Navigant Consulting Implements Oracle's PeopleSoft Enterprise 9.1 to Integrate Financial and HR Information

Navigant Consulting, an independent consulting firm specializing in companies undergoing substantial regulatory or business-model change, has gone live on Oracle's PeopleSoft Enterprise 9.1 to support its fast-growing global business.

With 2,500 employees across its global offices, Navigant needed a single industry-specific technology platform that could integrate financial and HR information to increase operational efficiencies and support its continued growth.

After an extensive competitive review, Navigant selected and implemented the latest version of Oracle's PeopleSoft Enterprise because its flexible, Web-based environment combined powerful, user-friendly HR and financial applications with the specific functionality needed for its project-based organization.

Navigant originally selected PeopleSoft 9.0 in November 2008, but decided to move forward with the newer version, PeopleSoft 9.1, once it became available in September 2009. The first phase of implementation included PeopleSoft Financial Management, PeopleSoft Human Capital Management, and PeopleSoft Applications Portal. Navigant went live on these three applications in August 2010.

With a single, aggregated view of HR and financial information and a new easy-to-use interface with Web 2.0 functionality, Navigant is also aiming to simplify and streamline processes, and achieve better visibility to key business information, while also encouraging further adoption by both business and power users.

To support its vision of delivering real-time business information to customers, in future phases of its IT transformation, Navigant plans to build on its PeopleSoft 9.1 implementation to include PeopleSoft Enterprise Service Automation, as well as integration of Oracle's Hyperion and Oracle Business Intelligence Enterprise Edition for enterprise performance management and comprehensive business intelligence.

"Our business is based on the seamless execution and expertise of our highly-trained consultants and we're always seeking ways to improve processes so they can focus on providing excellent client service," said Changappa Kodendera, CIO, Navigant Consulting. "Our phased implementation of Oracle's PeopleSoft Enterprise 9.1 will provide us with a solid technology foundation that we can rely on to support our global consulting business, with a scalable platform that facilitates further improvement."

Panorama Consulting Group Issues New ERP Report Titled Clash of the Titans: SAP vs. Oracle

Panorama Consulting Group, an independent ERP consulting firm, today released a new ERP report titled Clash of the Titans: SAP vs. Oracle. The new research compares the two largest ERP vendors, SAP and Oracle, and provides a review of functionality and a detailed listing of their competing products and technologies.

The intent of this report is to provide an independent and balanced comparison of the ERP market’s two leading software providers. Panorama is in no way affiliated with SAP, Oracle, or any other software vendor or reseller.

Clash of the Titans: SAP vs. Oracle Highlights:

• The ERP report provides comparison data on SAP and Oracle by reviewing each vendor by market share, user satisfaction, implementation duration, payback period, project cost, and benefits realization.
• The ERP report further investigates the two ERP vendors by providing a review of Oracle e-Business Suite and SAP Business Suite, JD Edwards EnterpriseOne and PeopleSoft Enterprise, SAP Business All-in-One, and SAP Business One, as well as an on-demand software as a service (SaaS) model comparison of SAP ByDesign and Oracle On-Demand.
• The ERP report provides an analysis of SAP and Oracle’s technology infrastructure and future roadmap.
• The ERP report provides average functional scores for each ERP vendor based on Panorama’s client ratings of each vendor. These results are average numbers from clients that included both SAP and Oracle on their short-lists.
• The report provides an overall assessment of each ERP vendor’s functional strengths.

“SAP and Oracle are the industry’s leading ERP vendors for good reasons,” says Eric Kimberling. “However, as with any comparison of ERP Software solutions, each has its strengths, weaknesses, and trade-offs depending on a company’s unique business requirements. Potential ERP solutions should be objectively compared against these individual organizational needs as part of an effective ERP software selection process.”

To offer further analysis of the study results, Kimberling will present the free webinar on Thursday, September 16, at 10:00 a.m. Mountain Daylight Time. Register for this webcast at: http://panorama-consulting.com/resource-center/erp-webinars/.

Avio Consulting Introduces Oracle BPM Accelerators

Avio Consulting, a leading BPM consulting firm, today announced the release of a new service offering for Oracle BPM customers called Oracle BPM Accelerators. Avio’s Oracle BPM Accelerators are designed to increase the value of an Oracle BPM investment (formerly BEA’s AquaLogic BPM) by helping Oracle customers access proven best practices, improve time-to-market and speed user adoption of their Oracle BPM investment.

Avio Oracle BPM Accelerators have been designed by Avio and provide a comprehensive set of frameworks and solutions to streamline Oracle BPM implementations and provide process improvement, rapid ROI and significant cost savings throughout the Oracle BPM project lifecycle.

“Avio consultants have over 150 years implementing BPM technologies. In many cases our consultants have been working with Oracle’s BPM technology prior to the acquisition of Fuego by BEA and then later by Oracle. We know this technology inside and out. These Oracle BPM Accelerators have been specifically designed from the ground up to leverage our in-depth knowledge and experience with Oracle BPM,” said Brandon Dean, Executive Vice President of Avio Consulting. “They are designed to help a customer implement their Oracle BPM initiatives quickly in order to deliver fast and effective return on investment.”

Avio Oracle BPM Accelerators include:

  • Simple Automated Management for Environments (SAME): SAME allows organizations to quickly and consistently create and manage environments for Oracle BPM Enterprise deployments. SAME automates tasks such as environment creation, engine administration, and project deployment across project teams and environments.
  • Extended Logging Framework (ELF): ELF enables organizations to enforce logging best practices and log message consistency across Oracle BPM deployments
  • Automated Testing Framework (ATF): ATF allows organizations to conduct automated test cases by running end-to-end tests of all processes and associated components for a project. ATF allows testing of both human and system activities for comprehensive testing coverage.
  • Global Exception Management (GEM): GEM provides a platform for handling enterprise-level exceptions for Oracle BPM projects and applications. GEM delivers a proactive alerting system to ensure key process activities are executing within acceptable boundaries. In addition, GEM provides pre-built Business Activity Monitoring (BAM) dashboards to provide a visible layer for exception monitoring.
  • Avio BPM Knowledge Base: The knowledge base provides access to Avio’s extensive and constantly expanding collection of industry research, articles, methodologies, project examples and industry best practices.

“BPM is more than technology. It’s an approach to ongoing business process improvement that is particularly well-suited to situations involving frequent process change that is driven by business stakeholders,” said Michele Cantara, research vice president, Gartner. “Gartner calls this the BPM Sweet Spot. While many consulting and SI vendors are adept at using BPM technologies for process integration, far fewer have an extensive track record in delivering agile, continuous process improvement projects using BPM disciplines along with BPM technologies.”

Benefits of leveraging Avio’s Oracle BPM Accelerators:

  • Avio Accelerators offer immediate access to best practices that empower Oracle BPM customers to increase their work quality and operate at maximum capacity throughout the implementation
  • Avio Accelerators help reduce project risk by enabling organization to immediately access proven and tested best practices to ensure projects are delivered on time and on budget
