CMTC Helps California Manufacturers Increase Sales $714 Million

Southern California’s small to medium size manufacturers receiving consulting services from California Manufacturing Technology Consulting™ (CMTC) reported an overall $147 million increase in sales. When including the manufacturing business improvements which helped avoid losing business due to current customer requirements, an additional $567 million in retained sales was reported, for a combined total of $714 million. An independent 3rd party (Turner Marketing) compiled the results in a survey between July 2008 and June 2009.

The survey results are from over 600 companies receiving consulting services from CMTC and show accompanying jobs benefit, a strong reminder of manufacturers’ importance in establishing high paying jobs with a big multiplier effect in the economy.

* 4107 created and retained manufacturing jobs
* 20,535 total created and retained manufacturing and supporting jobs

“While the report was compiled prior to the deep recession, Southern California manufacturers are continuing to embrace new production and management strategies. The improvements are lasting: they improve production techniques with Lean technologies, increase effectiveness of products produced with Quality techniques, and improves customer service by speeding the order-to-delivery cycle. A high percentage of these manufacturers will be able to remain in business in California and provide high-paying manufacturing jobs,” said David Braunstein, President and CEO of CMTC.

The impact data was compiled by the market research firm Turner Marketing for the National Institute of Standards and Technology’s (NIST) Hollings Manufacturing Extension Partnership (MEP). CMTC is an affiliate of NIST MEP, under the Federal Manufacturing Extension Partnership (MEP) program, a network of more than 60 centers across the country that provide assistance to manufacturers.
