Booz Allen Names Finance Veteran Thomas Sanzone as Senior Vice President

Thomas Sanzone, a financial executive with more than 25 years’ experience that has included leadership at some of the world’s largest global financial institutions, has been named a Senior Vice President at Booz Allen Hamilton. Sanzone will lead the firm’s Commercial Financial Services practice, based in New York City.

Sanzone, a recognized expense management and efficiency expert, brings to Booz Allen unparalleled management and technology experience that includes service as chief administrative officer for Merrill Lynch, and chief information officer for both Credit Suisse and Citigroup.

“Large financial institutions are at a turning point today as they face the growing threat of cyber attacks and changing economic conditions that are driving them to reimagine their infrastructures to achieve greater efficiencies and cost savings. Tom Sanzone brings to Booz Allen the critical experience in financial administration and technology to help our commercial finance clients navigate through these challenges,” said Mark Gerencser, executive vice president for Booz Allen’s U.S. commercial business.

Sanzone will lead a consulting team that is focusing on helping financial institutions mitigate risks and manage compliance, improve their process and operating efficiencies, and enhance their businesses through innovation and the development of new capabilities. The firm brings to its financial clients extensive experience in cyber and analytics capabilities as well as technology and strategic and organizational expertise built over nearly a century of serving commercial and government clients.

Prior to joining Booz Allen, Sanzone served as the CAO for Merrill Lynch, reporting to the CEO as part of the 7-person management committee running the firm. He joined Merrill in July 2008 and was responsible for global technology, operations, and corporate services.

After the merger of Bank of America and Merrill Lynch was announced, Sanzone ran the highly successful merger program, partnering with the future CEO of Bank of America. The program covered every division in both companies and focused on all key decisions including personnel selection, identifying and capturing significant cost savings, and platform integration.

Sanzone previously joined Credit Suisse in 2005 where he was the CIO and a member of the Executive Board. He was charged with strategically leveraging technology globally across the bank, including the enablement of new business lines, the enhancement of technology for the existing businesses, the automation of critical processes, the improvement and efficiency of the bank’s technology infrastructure, and the improvement of the bank's overall control environment.

Sanzone also previously worked at Citigroup, where he was CIO for the Corporate and Investment Bank, the Private Client Group, and the Global Transaction Services business. In that role, he was responsible for the strategy, development and implementation of all application technology. Before that, he had an extensive career in various positions at Salomon Brothers.
