Lockheed Martin Wins Position on New CDC Information Technology Contract

Lockheed Martin (NYSE: LMT) has won a position on a new Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) contract that will expand IT services across the CDC and its affiliated groups. The indefinite-delivery, indefinite-quantity contract, called CDC Information Management Services (CIMS), encompasses the full range of IT solutions to serve the CDC's 16,000-person workforce.

Lockheed Martin was awarded the right to compete for task orders in all three of the CDC CIMS domain areas: Management Consulting Services; IT Infrastructure; and Information Management. The contract, which is worth up to $5 billion over 10 years, includes a two-year base period followed by four, two-year option periods.

"As a long-term partner to the CDC, Lockheed Martin understands how IT can support the mission of safer, healthier people," said Lockheed Martin CDC Program Director Jim Young. "From biosurveillance and emergency response to more proactive public health and prevention efforts, we're excited to help implement the CDC's health solutions in the U.S. and across the globe."

The work awarded under CDC CIMS would continue and expand services that Lockheed Martin currently provides under the CDC Information Technology Support Contract (CITS). Those services include applications development and maintenance; architectural consultation; business process analysis; administrative and public health subject matter expertise; systems engineering; cyber security; and infrastructure support.

Lockheed Martin also currently supports the CDC's Office of Public Health Preparedness and Response (OPHPR), helping to manage the Strategic National Stockpile of medications and emergency medical supplies as well as the CDC's state-of-the-art Emergency Operations Center.

Headquartered in Bethesda, Md., Lockheed Martin is a global security company that employs about 136,000 people worldwide and is principally engaged in the research, design, development, manufacture, integration and sustainment of advanced technology systems, products and services. The Corporation's 2009 sales from continuing operations were $44.5 billion.
