RHR International Awards Recognize Excellence in Consulting Psychology

The Society of Consulting Psychology recently announced the recipients of two of its highest honors. Sponsored by RHR International Company, a world leader in executive and organizational development, the awards were presented at the annual American Psychological Association convention.

The "RHR International Award for Excellence in Consultation for 2009" was presented to Vicki V. Vandaveer, Ph.D. This award is given to an individual with a distinguished career in the practice of consulting psychology. It honors a founding member of RHR International, Perry L. Rohrer, who epitomized the standards of excellence that RHR and the Society seek to perpetuate.

Dr. Vandaveer is a business psychologist highly experienced in global executive development and organization culture change. Her more than twenty-five years' experience includes thirteen years in private industry - eight years with Shell and five years with Southwestern Bell immediately following AT&T divestiture - and fourteen years in national and international consulting across industries. In 1993, Vicki became CEO of the Vandaveer Group, Inc., where she continues to consult in the areas of personal executive development, leadership team development, executive assessment, organizational assessment and consultation, and the merging/re-shaping of corporate culture.

In addition to her consulting, she has been an active member and leader in the
American Psychological Association (APA), the Society for Industrial/Organizational Psychology (SIOP), and the Society of Consulting Psychology (SCP), serving on many key boards and committees. She has been an Adjunct Professor at both Rice University and the University of Houston from 1989 to present, and she has participated in over 112 symposia, workshops and/or invited addresses since 1983. She earned her doctorate in Industrial/Organizational Psychology at the University of Houston.

The "RHR International Outstanding Doctoral Dissertation Award for 2009" was presented to Dawn S. Cone, Ph.D. This award is given to a doctoral student or recent graduate for exemplary research contributing to the theory or practice of consulting psychology. Dr. Cone was recognized for her dissertation "Perceiver Race/Ethnicity, Attributions for Anger, and Perceptions of Black and White Men at Work." As this year`s winner, she will present her paper at the 2010 APA annual meeting.

Dr. Cone`s doctorate in Industrial/Organizational and Clinical Psychology was earned at Alliant International University, San Diego, where she was honored with an "Outstanding Doctor of Philosophy Award" in 2008. She presently serves as Assistant Resident Dean at the University of California, San Diego in La Jolla, California.

"Dr. Vandaveer is well known to the consultants of RHR International and we consider her a true friend of the firm. Her decades of dedication and service to the field of Industrial/Organizational Psychology make her a worthy recipient of this award," said Jeff Durocher, Vice President of Market Development for RHR International.

"Recognition of talented newcomers and their academic accomplishments is another long standing practice of RHR International," he continued. "We congratulate Dr. Cone at the beginning of what promises to be an equally brilliant career."

Dr. Paul Winum, Practice Leader for CEO Succession Services at RHR International, was also acknowledged at the APA meeting. Dr. Winum was presented with the Society of Consulting Psychology award for Service to the Division. The commendation cited his long and varied service that has included serving as President of the Division, as program chair of the Midwinter conference, as awards chair, serving on the editorial board as well as publishing in the Consulting Psychology Journal and making numerous presentations at APA and Division meetings.
