Northern Trust (Nasdaq: NTRS) announced today that Anthony Wilkins has been named Global Head of Defined Contribution Sales and Service for its asset management arm, Northern Trust Global Investments (NTGI), and Joanne Hickman has joined the firm as Managing Director, Global Head of Consultant Relations at NTGI.
The appointment of Wilkins, a senior vice president and CFA charterholder who has led NTGI's consultant relations effort for the last eight years, brings additional focus to the firm's delivery of Defined Contribution (DC) investment options to the institutional marketplace. Currently, NTGI has more than $31 billion in DC assets under management in collective funds and mutual funds. With a distinguished heritage in asset allocation and innovative product development, Northern Trust seeks to bring defined benefit discipline to defined contribution investing.
Hickman, Senior Vice President and Managing Director, replaces Wilkins and will lead all efforts representing NTGI and its investment capabilities to the investment consultant community, globally. She joins from UBS Global Asset Management and has 25 years of investment industry experience, including senior roles at asset management and consulting firms.
"NTGI is committed to the DC market, in the United States and globally, and these appointments strengthen both our sales and consultant relations capabilities as we bring new solutions to this growing marketplace," said Lyle Logan, Executive Vice President and Managing Director, Global Sales and Client Relations for NTGI. Both Hickman and Wilkins report to Logan.
"Tony Wilkins has an extensive background in consultant relations and investment sales, providing the right focus for our new DC market initiative," Logan said. "Joanne Hickman's depth of experience with the investment consulting community enhances our ability to respond to consultants amid changing investment markets. She will champion new investment strategies and direct current efforts offering comprehensive solutions which are designed to respond dynamically to today's institutional investor."
Wilkins joined NTGI as an institutional sales representative. Prior to Northern Trust, he was an institutional sales representative at Weiss, Peck & Greer and a portfolio manager for Stein Roe & Farnham. Wilkins is treasurer and board member of the Association of Investment Management Sales Executives and a member of the Disciplinary Review Committee of the CFA Institute.
Hickman was Managing Director and Head of Consultant Relations for UBS Global Asset Management for the last six years. Prior to that, she was a Managing Director and Head of the Consultant Relations teams at State Street Research & Management and Zurich Investment Management (formerly Kemper Asset Management). For 10 years, she was a consultant with Ennis, Knupp & Associates. Joanne is a co-founder of The Women Investment Professionals Association, Chicago, which was initiated in 1996.
