Economic Outlook Leads Consulting Firm To Invest In Itself

Ronald K. Stair knows the value of a profitable business and a secure future. As president of Creative Plan Designs, Ltd. (CPD,) a retirement consulting firm based out of East Meadow, NY, planning his client's futures is his day to day business. But Dr. Stair has taken the idea of a secure future one step further by also investing in his employees.

In order to accomplish this, CPD offers its employees the chance to attend continuing education programs sponsored by various professional organizations in their industry. The firm covers seminar fees, travel, and lodging expenses for employees who attend the seminars. "We have always believed that an investment in our employees is a sound and profitable way to do business. Insofar as the continuing education aspect of that investment, ours is an industry in which the rules are always changing. In order for our firm to maintain our cutting-edge image, our employees must be current on all rules and legislative changes," says Dr. Stair. "The knowledge gained by our employees through continuing education enables our firm to offer the best service and most up-to-date consulting available in the retirement field. Of course the employee 'owns' their knowledge; we just rent it from them."

In addition to aiding in their employees educational pursuits, the firm also offers their employees the opportunity to have wills, and health care proxies drawn for them, free of charge. To Dr. Stair, this is a very important way to secure the future for not only his employees, but also for their families and loved ones. "It is a little known fact that every single New York State resident does indeed have a will; unfortunately, that will has been legislated for them by New York State and I can state unconditionally, no one will like its terms. By making your wishes known in a legally drafted will, it allows your relatives to move forward at a time of emotional and possibly financial crisis without court intervention."

"No one wants to think about dying, which is what a will represents. But assuming you care about the people in your life (and yourself in terms of a health care proxy), you owe it to them (and yourself) to take the time to complete this planning."

In times such as these, planning ahead can be the most positive thing a person can do to insure their future. Dr. Stair believes that no matter how difficult things get, there are still some things that can be done to provide some financial security. "Don't overspend or overextend. Save what you can and economize whenever possible. Think about alternative courses of action before you open your wallet."

"In our current economic climate, I remind employers that a properly designed retirement plan will maximize the efficiency of the employer's benefit dollars."
