Dr. Ryan Church, DC, CPC, for five years a practicing chiropractor in the Akron/Canton, Ohio area, has joined the ACOM Chiropractic Consulting Group, it was announced today by Mark Firmin, senior vice president and general manager of the ACOM Healthcare Division.
Dr. Church graduated from the University of Akron with a degree in psychology prior to redirecting his interests to physical health. Enrolling at the National University of Health Sciences, Lombard, Illinois, he earned a second bachelors degree, in human biology, as well as a Doctor of Chiropractic degree. During his practice years he has been active with the Ohio State Chiropractic Association (OSCA), serving as chairperson of the Insurance Committee.
"Dr. Church has come to the healthcare consulting field for all of the right reasons," Firmin said. "His education has given him profound insight into multiple dimensions of human health, and his experience as a chiropractor has provided him with broad understanding of the problems faced by his fellow professionals in being properly compensated for the work that they do. His service on the OSCA insurance committee has yielded an excellent grasp of how to overcome these problems – essentially through more effective coding and documentation."
As part of his continuing education, Dr. Church independently earned his designation as a Certified Professional Coder.
"Seeing DCs constantly denied payment and not knowing how to fight to get paid motivated me to become a certified professional coder," Dr. Church said. "Through my work with the Consulting Group’s Senior Consultant Bharon Hoag in the state association, I came to see the value of communicating this specialized knowledge to other chiropractors and my affiliation with ACOM provides me with the ideal environment in which to do so. It is a great challenge and one that offers great personal satisfaction."
