West Monroe Partners Named One of Consulting Magazine's 2009 'Best Small Firms to Work For'

West Monroe Partners, a full-service business and technology consultancy, today announced that it has been named one of Consulting Magazine's "Best Small Firms to Work For" in 2009. This is the second time in three years Consulting Magazine has recognized West Monroe Partners in this survey, a comprehensive look at the quality of life within the consulting profession's top firms based on responses to an independent survey of more than 10,000 consultants.

In naming West Monroe Partners to its list of 15 small firms -- defined as those with between 20 and 499 billable consultants -- the publication cited the firm's high scores in the areas of culture and type of work performed ("the job").

Founded in Chicago in 2002, West Monroe Partners has developed a full-service business and technology consulting organization on a platform of people-focused core values. The company has rigorously maintained this focus as it has grown to seven offices across North America and a team of more than 200 consultants -- in part by remaining 100-percent employee owned. Its innovative human resources practices include a highly collaborative and participatory environment in which people at all levels contribute to the company's direction and share in its results. Because of its size and predominantly middle-market client base, consultants have opportunities to assume significant client service and internal team responsibilities early in their careers.

"Since our inception, our primary strategic focus has been fundamentally different than that of many professional services firms. Rather than stating our intent in terms of market goals, we focus first on our people," said Dean Fischer, president of West Monroe Partners. "Some argue this strategy is backwards; it is internal when our business is all about attracting, serving, and retaining clients. In our business, the firm with the best people delivers the best service and wins in the marketplace over time. This award not only validates our strategy but indicates we are executing it well."

This is the latest in a series of human resources awards for West Monroe Partners, which also was named one of Consulting Magazine's 2007 Best Firms to Work For. In addition, the National Association of Business Resources has include the company on its list of Chicago's "101 Best and Brightest Companies to Work For" for four years in a row beginning in 2006. Crain's Chicago Business included the firm on its list of "20 Best Places to Work" in 2009, and Seattle Business Monthly recognized it as one of the Puget Sound area's "Best Places to Work" in 2008.

Consulting Magazine's Best Firms to Work For survey, now in its ninth year, is open to all consulting firms that currently employ at least 20 billable consultants. Results are based on survey data from at employees on six, equally-weighted categories: Career Development, Compensation and Benefits, Culture, Work/Life Balance, The Job and Leadership. This is the second year that the publication has named a separate list of small firms. More than 230 firms were included in this year's study.
