The FORTUNE list of "100 Best Companies to Work for in America" pays tribute to the companies that excel in motivating employees and helping them manage their personal and professional lives. Of the more than 1,000 organizations contacted, 253 of them participated in this year's survey. Nearly 81,000 employees at those organizations responded to a survey created by the Great Place to Work Institute, a global research and consulting firm. The employees are asked a variety of questions about credibility, respect, fairness, pride and camaraderie. Employee opinions factored heavily in the decision process for the list, as two-thirds of the company's score was weighted on responses from randomly selected employees.
