Global professional services company Towers Watson has appointed Rory O’Brien as global Risk Consulting and Software leader, effective immediately. He replaces Steve Taylor-Gooby, who is stepping down from the role after 25 years at the company.
O’Brien joined Towers Watson from EMB, the risk consulting and software firm acquired by Towers Watson earlier this year. At EMB, he was Managing Partner responsible for defining and implementing global strategy; a role he held since joining that firm in 2008. Before EMB, O’Brien was the Group CEO of Guardian Holdings Limited, a publicly quoted company. Prior to that, O’Brien, an accountant by training, was a partner at Deloitte jointly responsible for its Insurance Consulting business.
Patricia L. Guinn, global leader of Towers Watson’s Risk and Financial Services segment, said: “We are excited about Rory joining our leadership team because of his strategic vision, commitment to growing and broadening this business and a keen focus on client issues. He has a successful track record for innovation and execution and will bring incredible passion to this position. We have ambitious growth plans and are confident that Rory will lead the global team in achieving them, while delivering exceptional client service.”
O’Brien, global leader of Towers Watson’s Risk Consulting and Software business, said: “I am excited to be taking on this role at such a fascinating and challenging time in the development of the insurance industry. Towers Watson is a pre-eminent global player in insurance risk and software and, with the support of our strong team, I am confident we can help our clients meet the many challenges they face in the rapidly-changing and complex financial world.”
Guinn noted that Taylor-Gooby will assist with the transition before his departure, saying: “We thank Steve for his many contributions and wish him well for the future.”
