EMC Announces Finalists of Documentum xCP Designer's Challenge

EMC Corporation (NYSE: EMC), the world leader in information infrastructure solutions, today announced the five finalists of its EMC Documentum xCelerated Composition Platform (xCP) Designer's Challenge. EMC issued the challenge in May 2009 to its customers and partners to build a case management application using the Documentum xCP platform.

Documentum xCP is a dynamic applications composition platform that provides fully integrated technologies, development and deployment tools as well as best practices that emphasizes configuration versus coding. The pre-integrated technologies include content management, business process management, intelligent capture, customer communications management, collaboration and compliance. With Documentum xCP, system integrators, independent software vendors and IT organizations can rapidly build case-based applications up to 50 percent faster, at a substantially lower cost and with fewer resources. The solution also allows organizations to significantly reduce the total cost of ownership by creating applications that are easier to modify and maintain.

The challenge was issued to prove the ease and speed that Documentum xCP enables when composing new applications. Developers from around the world were invited to build an application of their choice using the tools, components, services and capabilities provided by Documentum xCP. The finalists were selected based on the breadth of functionality, emphasis on composition and configuration versus custom code and the completeness of the application.

EMC congratulates the following five finalists of the Documentum xCP Designer's Challenge:

* Trends Global: Healthcare Content Collaboration Gateway Application: Developed in eight days using Documentum xCP, the Healthcord XT Healthcare Content Collaboration Gateway allows healthcare providers to share patient records and other documents electronically while meeting HIPAA compliance requirements. When a patient requests a copy of his medical record, the application generates a master list which is then e-mailed to the patient. After the patient selects the healthcare record he needs, he can view or e-mail it to a family member or other doctors.
* Selectica: Contract Lifecycle Management Application: This enterprise application automates the entire contract management lifecycle -- from contract request, authoring, negotiation and approval, through contract execution, on-going obligations management, amendment and renewal. Using Documentum xCP, Selectica was able to develop a self-service "contract kiosk" that enables employees to collaborate with legal and contract departments in producing new contacts more quickly and efficiently. The solution was developed in less than 45 days at roughly one-fourth the cost of traditional development.
* MatchFirst: Case Book Application: Case Book is an online site where groups can collaborate and share information. This application exposes the configuration capabilities to the end-user so that community organizers can set up collaboration sites that meet their group's specific needs. Upon receiving an account, the community manager can easily define the case template, the document types the group want to use, create multiple cases based on the case template and grant access to users who have applied to contribute to the site. Using Documentum xCP, MatchFirst was able to develop Case Book in 22 days.
* Booz Allen Hamilton: Roadpulse Application: Roadpulse enables citizens to notify local and state governments of important infrastructure-related concerns, thereby identifying potential future development opportunities within a city or state. Roadpulse Public uses Microsoft Live Map to capture points of interest that users can collaborate, comment and rate. If certain triggers -- such as a high rating or most views -- occur, the point of interest is automatically routed to the local or state government. As the local government tracks the status of the case in Roadpulse Enterprise, the public can also see the status via Roadpulse Public. Roadpulse was developed in eight days using Documentum xCP.
* Avantias: Education Center Application: Developed in just 18 days using Documentum xCP, this case management solution streamlines the processes of a typical education center. It starts with web or paper-based registration, followed by workflow processes for attendance record and customized publishing of course acknowledgements and final evaluations.

"When we decided to do the Designers Challenge, our goal was to show just how easily companies could build case-based applications leveraging EMC Documentum xCP," said Whitney Tidmarsh, Chief Marketing Officer, Content Management and Archiving Division at EMC. "We were truly impressed with the submissions we received -- all of which demonstrated how truly game changing Documentum xCP is to the market -- by helping customers and partners rapidly build case-based applications up to 50 percent faster, and at a much lower cost."

From these five finalists, the top three winners will take home cash prizes -- $35,000 for first prize, $10,000 for second prize, $5,000 for third prize. Everyone is invited to vote for the best xCP-based application on the Documentum Developer Community, which is part of the EMC Community Network, at https://community.emc.com/docs/DOC-4681. Votes from the community will be combined with scores from the panel of judges that includes analysts, industry experts and EMC executives. Winners will be announced at EMC's annual content management and archiving user conference, Momentum Europe in Athens, Nov. 9-12, 2009, where the first place winner will also have an opportunity to present their solution.
