Partners Consulting Services, Inc., plans to begin implementing the recently announced open source software infrastructure offering from Sun Microsystems, Inc. (NASDAQ: JAVA). A leading expert in identity management and Governance, Risk, and Compliance (GRC) solutions, Partners expects the new platform, delivered via the Amazon Elastic Compute Cloud (Amazon EC2), to reduce development and infrastructure costs for its clients.
An AMR Research report stated that 2008 spending on GRC was expected to increase an estimated 7.4% to $32 billion, indicative of a shift by corporations responding to security risks.
“Partners has played an integral role in overcoming identity management and GRC implementation challenges across a variety of software bundles and architectural models and we are now seeing an increased demand for Cloud services from our clients,” said Jim Guinn, II executive vice president, Partners Consulting Solution Division. “We believe the Sun open source software infrastructure will allow us to more quickly develop proof-of-concept and prototype applications, essentially renting the computing power needed rather than buying. Partners is already familiar with cloud computing; doing much of its proof-of-concept development on a proprietary platform. Running Sun open source software on Amazon EC2 eliminates infrastructure acquisition costs and hardware requisition delays prior to beginning a proof of concept or development effort.
